On the second fasting day of Ramadan, Israel imposed a blockade on all humanitarian aid into Gaza. Israel PM Netenyahu accused Hamas of not accepting a negotiation outline proposed by President Donald Trump and confirmed that the decision was coordinated with Trump.
Trump's proposal called for a temporary ceasefire for the duration of Ramadan and for the duration of Passover. The new proposal comes after negotiations regarding phase 2 of the ceasefire in Egypt.
While many Gazans have returned to their homes and expect this Ramadan to be easier than the last, countless others continue to face daily starvation. Humanitarian aid trucks, stalled at the Egyptian border, hold essential supplies desperately needed by those in Gaza. Despite Ramadan being a month of fasting, access to food, water, and medicine remains critical for survival.
Hamas condemned the blockade as "blackmail" and a "war crime," urging mediators to pressure Israel to fulfill its obligations. This new proposal would extend phase 1 of the ceasefire but the group called on Israel to honor the original signed agreement rather than change things with the support of the USA.
Additionally, President Trump also announced he'd instructed the U.S. State Department to expedite $4 billion in military aid to the Israeli military and reversed the Biden administration's partial arms embargo.
